I started my working career with Oldham Corporation Passenger Transport Department in May 1968, in the Works Office, then moved to the Traffic Office until 1974 when I moved to Princess Road in Manchester.
Did 4 years part time Driving for North Western RCC/National Express, from Hulme Hall Road Garage in Manchester, in there somewhere.
I left Greater Manchester PTE as it had become in April 1974, in 1975 when I was appointed Asst. Traffic Officer at Derby Borough/City Transport.
Left there in 1980 to take up the post of Operating Superintendent with Darlington Corporation Transport, which became Darlington Transport Company at de-regulation.
I was made redundant from there in September 1989, and then joined OK Motor Services, Bishop Auckland for a short period, before taking up the post of Coach Manager with Cleveland Transit Coaches in Stockton on Tees.
On the takeover of them by Stagecoach I left the industry for a short time, before returning as Tours and Excursions Manager with Compass Royston Coaches in Stockton on Tees.
Working in the Priivate sector did not suit me, and after a short spell driving for Arriva (ex United Automobile Services) at Richmond Depot, I spent the final 10 years of my working life with Durham County Council, as a Transport Monitoring Officer.
I took early retirement, under the Local Government cut backs, in 2011 after nearly 45 years in the Bus and Coach industry.
I enjoy my retirement, doing not very much, well as much as 'She who must be obeyed' let's me not do.
